PBackground of the Study

Language processing is not solely a cognitive endeavor but is also influenced by socio-cognitive factors such as cultural attitudes, social identity, and interaction patterns. In urban Hausa communities, youth are exposed to diverse linguistic environments that shape their language processing abilities. Socio-cognitive factors, including peer influence, media exposure, and educational experiences, play a significant role in modulating how urban youth process and interpret Hausa language inputs (Suleiman, 2023). This study examines the impact of these socio-cognitive factors on language processing by utilizing behavioral language tasks and surveys that assess social attitudes and cognitive styles. By correlating performance on language comprehension tasks with socio-cognitive profiles, the research aims to uncover how factors such as motivation, self-efficacy, and social context influence linguistic performance. Understanding these dynamics is essential for developing educational strategies that leverage social and cultural strengths to enhance language processing among urban Hausa youth (Abubakar, 2024; Musa, 2025).

Statement of the Problem

Despite the acknowledged influence of socio-cognitive factors on language processing, there is limited empirical research on how these factors affect Hausa language comprehension among urban youth. Existing studies often neglect the interplay between social context and cognitive processing, leading to an incomplete picture of language performance. This gap restricts the ability to develop culturally and contextually relevant educational interventions that could improve language processing in urban Hausa populations. Without such targeted insights, efforts to boost academic achievement and effective communication may fall short (Suleiman, 2023; Abubakar, 2024).

Objectives of the Study:

1. To assess the influence of socio-cognitive factors on Hausa language processing in urban youth.

2. To identify key social and cognitive variables that correlate with language comprehension.

3. To propose educational interventions that integrate socio-cognitive strategies.

Research Questions:

1. Which socio-cognitive factors most influence Hausa language processing among urban youth?

2. How do social attitudes and cognitive styles relate to language comprehension performance?

3. What interventions can improve language processing by leveraging these factors?

Significance of the Study :

This study is significant as it elucidates the role of socio-cognitive factors in Hausa language processing among urban youth, providing insights that can enhance educational practices and cognitive training. The findings will help tailor interventions to improve language comprehension and academic outcomes (Suleiman, 2023; Musa, 2025).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:

This study is limited to assessing socio-cognitive influences on language processing in Hausa among urban youth, using behavioral and survey methods.

Definitions of Terms:

• Socio-Cognitive Factors: Social and cognitive influences that affect behavior and language processing.

• Language Processing: The cognitive mechanisms involved in understanding spoken language.

• Urban Youth: Young individuals residing in city environments.
