Background of the Study
Narrative framing in Efik social media content represents a dynamic intersection of traditional cultural narratives and modern digital expression in Cross River State. On platforms like Facebook and Twitter, content creators employ framing techniques—such as thematic structuring, visual cues, and contextual anchors—to guide audience interpretation and shape public discourse (Inyang, 2023). These narrative frames serve to highlight cultural values, historical experiences, and social issues relevant to the Efik community. Framing not only structures the narrative but also influences the reception and engagement of social media users by evoking emotions and aligning perspectives. Studies have shown that strategic framing can transform mundane content into powerful social commentary (Ekpo, 2024). In a digital age marked by rapid information exchange, understanding narrative framing in Efik social media becomes crucial for appreciating how indigenous narratives adapt to and thrive in online environments. This investigation focuses on how framing techniques are used to construct, negotiate, and disseminate cultural narratives, thereby reinforcing group identity and influencing social attitudes (Inyang, 2023).

Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing importance of narrative framing in shaping online discourse, there is a dearth of research on how Efik social media content employs these techniques in Cross River State. Current literature often overlooks the specific framing devices used by Efik content creators, thus limiting our understanding of their impact on audience perception and cultural communication (Ekpo, 2024). Without detailed analysis, it remains unclear how these frames contribute to shaping collective identity and influencing social dynamics. This study aims to address these issues by systematically investigating the framing strategies in Efik digital narratives, thereby bridging the gap in current discourse research.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To identify narrative framing techniques in Efik social media content.

  2. To analyze how these frames structure and influence narratives.

  3. To evaluate their impact on cultural identity and audience engagement.

Research Questions

  1. What narrative framing techniques are prevalent in Efik social media content?

  2. How do these frames affect the organization of digital narratives?

  3. What role do they play in shaping cultural identity?

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it reveals the mechanisms by which narrative framing in Efik social media content shapes public discourse and cultural identity. The findings will benefit social media analysts, cultural scholars, and communication strategists by highlighting effective framing practices that resonate with indigenous audiences (Inyang, 2023; Ekpo, 2024).

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study is limited to Efik social media content in Cross River State and does not include other digital platforms or language communities.

Definitions of Terms

  • Narrative Framing: The process of structuring a narrative to influence interpretation.

  • Social Media Content: Digital posts and communications on online platforms.

  • Efik: The indigenous language and cultural community of Cross River State.
