ABSTRACT: This study explores the role of early childhood education in developing local food networks among young children. Introducing local food network concepts early can foster a better understanding of food sourcing and community support. Objectives included evaluating children's understanding of local food networks, identifying effective educational practices, and assessing the long-term impacts of early local food network education. A survey design was utilized for its ability to gather comprehensive data. Purposive sampling was employed to select 200 children from preschools in Anambra State, Nigeria. Findings indicated that children exposed to local food network education demonstrated a greater appreciation and understanding of the benefits of local food networks. Effective practices included interactive lessons on food sourcing, hands-on gardening projects, and visits to local farms and markets. The study recommended integrating local food network education into early childhood curricula to foster a better connection with local food sources and community support from an early age.
