ABSTRACT: This research investigates the influence of early childhood education on reducing carbon footprint among young children. Educating children about carbon footprint reduction early can lead to lifelong environmentally responsible behaviors. Objectives were to assess children's understanding of carbon footprint, identify effective educational practices, and evaluate the long-term impacts of early carbon footprint education. A survey design was chosen for its capacity to gather detailed data. Purposive sampling was used to select 200 children from preschools in Benue State, Nigeria. Findings indicated that children exposed to carbon footprint education demonstrated better understanding and practice of reducing their carbon footprint. Activities such as interactive lessons on carbon footprint reduction, hands-on projects, and community initiatives were particularly effective. The study recommended integrating carbon footprint education into early childhood programs to foster environmentally responsible behaviors from an early age.
