ABSTRACT: This research investigated the benefits of early childhood education in fostering environmental stewardship among young children. The objectives were to measure the level of environmental stewardship in children attending early education programs, identify effective educational practices, and analyze the long-term impact of early environmental education. A survey design was used, justified by its capacity to gather diverse and detailed data. Purposive sampling was employed to select 180 preschool children from Enugu State, Nigeria. Findings revealed that children engaged in environmental education programs exhibited a stronger sense of responsibility towards the environment. Activities such as nature walks, environmental projects, and interactive learning about ecosystems were particularly impactful. The study recommended that early childhood education programs incorporate these activities to cultivate a sense of environmental stewardship from an early age.
