ABSTRACT: Early childhood education (ECE) significantly influences the development of accountability among young children, which is crucial for their moral and social development. This study examines how ECE programs foster accountability in early childhood settings. The objectives are to (1) assess the development of accountability in children attending ECE programs, (2) evaluate the effectiveness of accountability-promoting activities in ECE settings, and (3) compare the accountability levels of children who attend ECE programs with those who do not. A survey design was employed to gather quantitative data on accountability development and qualitative insights from educators and parents. A purposive sample of 120 children from preschools in Bauchi State was selected. The case study focuses on preschools known for their accountability-promoting initiatives. Findings revealed that children in ECE programs exhibited higher levels of accountability compared to those not in such programs. Accountability-promoting activities were found to be particularly effective. Recommendations include integrating accountability-focused activities into ECE curricula and supporting educators in fostering accountability among young children.
