ABSTRACT: Early childhood education (ECE) significantly influences the development of altruism among young children, which is crucial for their social and moral development. This study examines how ECE programs foster altruism in early childhood settings. The objectives are to (1) assess the development of altruistic behavior in children attending ECE programs, (2) evaluate the effectiveness of altruism-promoting activities in ECE settings, and (3) compare the altruistic behaviors of children who attend ECE programs with those who do not. A survey design was employed to gather quantitative data on altruism development and qualitative insights from educators and parents. A purposive sample of 120 children  from preschools in Kaduna State was selected. The case study focuses on preschools known for their altruism-promoting initiatives. Findings revealed that children in ECE programs exhibited higher levels of altruistic behavior compared to those not in such programs. Altruism-promoting activities were found to be particularly effective. Recommendations include integrating altruism-focused activities into ECE curricula and supporting educators in fostering altruism among young children.
