ABSTRACT: Early childhood education (ECE) significantly impacts the development of civic responsibility among young children, which is crucial for their social and moral development. This study explores how ECE programs foster civic responsibility in early childhood settings. The objectives are to (1) assess the understanding and practice of civic responsibility in children attending ECE programs, (2) evaluate the effectiveness of civic-related activities in ECE settings, and (3) examine the differences in civic responsibility between children who attend ECE programs and those who do not. A survey design was employed to gather quantitative data on civic responsibility and qualitative insights from educators and parents. A purposive sample of 130 children  from preschools in Delta State was selected. The case study focuses on preschools known for their civic responsibility-promoting initiatives. Findings revealed that children in ECE programs exhibited a better understanding and practice of civic responsibility compared to those not in such programs. Civic-related activities were found to be particularly effective. Recommendations include integrating civic responsibility-focused activities into ECE curricula and providing resources for educators to effectively teach civic responsibility.
