ABSTRACT: This study examines the impact of early childhood education (ECE) on peer relationships among young children, crucial for their social and emotional development in early childhood settings. The objectives are to (1) assess changes in peer interactions and peer acceptance among children in ECE programs, (2) evaluate the influence of ECE on conflict resolution skills and cooperation with peers, and (3) examine the role of ECE in shaping positive peer relationships. A survey design is employed to gather data on peer relationships and qualitative insights into peer dynamics. A purposive sample of 130 children from preschools in Plateau State was selected. The case study focuses on preschools known for their supportive peer relationship initiatives. Findings revealed improved peer interactions, increased peer acceptance, enhanced conflict resolution skills, and positive peer relationships fostered by ECE participation. Recommendations include promoting peer collaboration activities in ECE curricula, providing guidance on conflict resolution strategies, and creating inclusive environments that support positive peer interactions among children.
