ABSTRACT: The role of early childhood education in fostering independence is crucial for understanding how early educational experiences shape children's ability to manage tasks and make decisions autonomously. This study examines how early childhood education programs influence the development of independence in young children. The objectives are to (1) assess improvements in children's self-reliance and decision-making skills, (2) evaluate the integration of independence-building activities in early childhood education curricula, and (3) examine changes in children's autonomy and problem-solving abilities. A survey design is employed to collect comprehensive data on the role of early childhood education in fostering independence. A purposive sample of 100 children  from preschools in Lagos State was used. The case study focuses on a preschool renowned for its emphasis on independence-building activities. Findings revealed significant improvements in children's self-reliance and decision-making skills, the effectiveness of independence-building activities, and positive changes in children's autonomy and problem-solving abilities. Recommendations included integrating independence-building activities into early childhood curricula and providing ongoing professional development for educators to enhance children's independence.
