ABSTRACT: This research assessed the effectiveness of early childhood literacy programs in rural areas. The objectives were to: (1) evaluate the impact of literacy programs on language development, (2) assess the role of these programs in improving reading skills, and (3) determine the long-term benefits of early literacy on academic performance. A survey design was employed to gather data from educators, parents, and children about their experiences with literacy programs. A sample size of 150 participants was selected using purposive sampling. The case study focused on rural communities in Benue State, Nigeria. Findings revealed that early childhood literacy programs significantly improved language development and reading skills, with long-term benefits on academic performance. It was recommended that literacy programs be expanded in rural areas and that educators receive training to effectively implement literacy activities to enhance language development and reading skills.
