ABSTRACT: This research investigated the role of early childhood education in developing environmental stewardship. The objectives were to: (1) assess the impact of environmental education on children's attitudes towards the environment, (2) evaluate the effectiveness of hands-on environmental activities in fostering stewardship, and (3) determine the long-term benefits of early environmental education on sustainable behaviors. A survey design was employed to gather data from educators, parents, and children about their experiences with environmental education programs. A sample size of 160 participants was selected using purposive sampling. The case study focused on early childhood education centers in Delta State, Nigeria. Findings indicated that environmental education significantly improved children's attitudes towards the environment, with hands-on activities fostering a sense of stewardship. Long-term benefits included the adoption of sustainable behaviors. It was recommended that early childhood education programs integrate comprehensive environmental education into their curricula and provide training for educators to effectively deliver these programs.
