ABSTRACT: This research investigated the effects of early childhood screen time guidelines on development. The objectives were to: (1) evaluate the impact of screen time on cognitive development, (2) assess the influence of screen time on social and emotional skills, and (3) determine the effectiveness of screen time guidelines in promoting balanced development. A survey design was employed to gather data from parents and educators about children's screen time habits and developmental outcomes. A sample size of 180 parents and educators was selected using purposive sampling. The case study focused on early childhood education centers in Oyo State, Nigeria. Findings indicated that excessive screen time negatively affected cognitive, social, and emotional development. Screen time guidelines were found to promote balanced development when appropriately implemented. It was recommended that early childhood education programs and parents adhere to screen time guidelines and provide alternative activities to support holistic development.
