Abstract: This study explores the influence of peer relationships on the development of social skills in early childhood. The objective is to examine how peer interactions impact social competence, cooperative behaviors, and conflict resolution skills in young children. A survey research design is justified to collect data from 250 preschool-aged children and their educators in Oyo State, using purposive sampling to ensure representation across different peer group dynamics and educational settings. Findings reveal that positive peer relationships foster prosocial behaviors and emotional regulation, while peer conflicts provide opportunities for learning social negotiation skills. Recommendations include promoting peer interaction opportunities in ECE settings, implementing social-emotional learning programs, and supporting educators in facilitating positive peer relationships to enhance early childhood social development.
