ABSTRACT
THE EFFECT OF FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING TRANSPARENCY ON STOCK MARKET PERFORMANCE is examined in this study, aiming to understand the relationship between transparent financial reporting and market outcomes, identify challenges to achieving transparency, and evaluate the implications for investors and regulators. A survey design was chosen for its ability to collect extensive data from market participants and accounting professionals. Taro Yamane's formula was used to derive a sample size of 290 respondents, ensuring the data's reliability and representativeness. The research is conducted in Lagos, a leading financial market in the region. The survey instrument achieved a reliability coefficient score of 0.88, indicating high reliability. Findings reveal that financial accounting transparency significantly influences stock market performance by enhancing investor confidence, reducing information asymmetry, and improving market efficiency. However, challenges such as regulatory compliance, the complexity of financial disclosures, and potential biases in reporting persist. The study recommends strengthening regulatory frameworks, promoting best practices in financial reporting, and enhancing the role of auditors to ensure transparency and its positive impact on stock market performance.
