Abstract: THE ROLE OF ACCOUNTING FOR PRIVATE DEBT FUNDS AND CREDIT STRATEGIES
This study aims to: (1) investigate the accounting requirements for private debt funds, (2) assess the impact of credit strategies on fund performance, and (3) evaluate the regulatory compliance aspects of private debt fund accounting. A survey design was used to collect data from 330 accountants in Enugu, with the sample size determined using Taro Yamane's formula. Enugu was chosen for its growing financial sector and investment activities. The survey instrument had a reliability coefficient score of 0.86. Findings indicate that accounting for private debt funds involves navigating complex credit strategies and regulatory requirements. The study recommends the development of specialized accounting guidelines and continuous training for accountants managing private debt funds to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
