Abstract: THE ROLE OF ACCOUNTING FOR PRIVATE PLACEMENT FUNDS AND OFFERINGS
The objectives of this study are to: (1) analyze the accounting requirements for private placement funds, (2) understand the challenges in accounting for private offerings, and (3) evaluate the regulatory compliance aspects of private placement accounting. A survey design was used to collect data from 340 accountants in Enugu, with the sample size derived using Taro Yamane’s formula. Enugu was chosen for its active investment scene. The survey instrument had a reliability coefficient score of 0.87. Findings indicate that accounting for private placement funds involves complex regulatory requirements and risk assessments. The study recommends the development of specialized accounting guidelines and continuous professional development for accountants handling private placements.
