Abstract: THE ROLE OF FUND ACCOUNTANTS IN PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT

The primary objectives of this study are to: (1) analyze the role of fund accountants in performance measurement; (2) assess the impact of accurate performance reporting on investment decisions; and (3) explore the tools and techniques used by fund accountants to measure and report performance. A survey research design was chosen for its ability to gather extensive data from a broad spectrum of professionals. Using Taro Yamane's formula, a sample size of 290 fund accountants and investment managers from Lagos, Nigeria, was determined to be statistically significant. The study includes a case study of a leading investment firm in Lagos to provide contextual insights. A reliability coefficient score of 0.86 was obtained, demonstrating the reliability of the survey instrument. Findings reveal that fund accountants play a critical role in accurately measuring and reporting investment performance, which is essential for informed decision-making and investor confidence. Recommendations include enhancing the use of advanced performance measurement tools, providing continuous training for fund accountants on performance metrics, and fostering closer collaboration between accountants and investment managers to improve performance reporting.
