Abstract: THE ROLE OF FUND ACCOUNTANTS IN INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT

The objectives of this research are to: (1) analyze the critical functions of fund accountants in investment decision-making processes; (2) evaluate the impact of fund accountants on investment performance and risk management; and (3) explore the role of fund accountants in compliance and regulatory reporting. A survey research design was selected to capture a broad spectrum of insights from practitioners in the field. The sample size, calculated using Taro Yamane's formula, includes 300 fund accountants and investment managers in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, ensuring a robust and representative sample. The study utilizes a case study of a prominent investment management firm in Port Harcourt to highlight practical applications. A reliability coefficient score of 0.83 was obtained, demonstrating the reliability of the survey instrument. Findings suggest that fund accountants play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, optimizing investment strategies, and maintaining regulatory compliance. Recommendations highlight the need for continuous professional development for fund accountants, the integration of advanced analytical tools, and stronger collaboration between fund accountants and investment managers.
