THE ROLE OF FIDUCIARY ACCOUNTANTS IN RISK MANAGEMENT
This research aims to (1) explore the role of fiduciary accountants in identifying financial risks, (2) assess their effectiveness in mitigating these risks, and (3) examine the tools and techniques used in risk management. A survey method was utilized to capture the experiences and perceptions of fiduciary accountants. Using Taro Yamane's formula, a sample size of 125 accountants was derived from an estimated population of 200 in Port Harcourt, ensuring a robust data set. A major fiduciary accounting firm in Port Harcourt was selected as the case study for contextual relevance. The reliability coefficient score of the survey was 0.89, indicating high reliability. The findings indicate that fiduciary accountants are integral to risk management, particularly in identifying and mitigating financial risks, though they face challenges such as limited access to advanced risk management tools. The study recommends the adoption of more sophisticated risk management software and continuous professional development to enhance their effectiveness.
