Abstract: AN ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACT OF COSTING METHODS FOR OUTSOURCING AND OFFSHORING DECISIONS
This research assesses the impact of various costing methods on outsourcing and offshoring decisions in manufacturing companies in Lagos. The study's objectives are to evaluate the effectiveness of different costing methods, assess their impact on financial performance, and identify the challenges faced during implementation. A survey design was utilized, gathering data from 250 financial managers and cost accountants, derived using Taro Yamane's formula. A case study of a leading manufacturing company in Lagos provided detailed insights. The reliability coefficient score was 0.88. Findings indicate that accurate costing methods, such as activity-based costing and total cost of ownership, significantly enhance outsourcing and offshoring decisions by providing precise cost information and facilitating better decision-making. However, challenges such as data collection difficulties and high implementation costs were noted. Recommendations include providing more training on costing methods, simplifying data collection processes, and integrating these methods with overall financial management practices to improve efficiency and performance.
