Abstract:
This study examines the role of management accounting in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in Lagos State, Nigeria. The objectives are to: (1) evaluate how management accounting practices support the M&A process, (2) assess the impact on financial performance and organizational integration, and (3) analyze the challenges faced in leveraging management accounting for successful M&A. A survey design was chosen to gather data from financial managers and M&A advisors. The sample size, calculated using Taro Yamane's formula, ensures representativeness. Access Bank Plc was selected as the case study due to its recent M&A activities. The reliability coefficient score of the survey was 0.94. Findings indicate that management accounting significantly supports the M&A process, enhancing financial performance and organizational integration. However, challenges such as data accuracy and integration of accounting practices were identified. It is recommended that companies in Lagos State adopt advanced management accounting practices to support successful M&A activities.
