ABSTRACT:
This study investigates the impact of climate-related disclosures on financial reporting in Lagos State, Nigeria. The objectives are to: (1) assess the influence of climate-related disclosures on the accuracy of financial reports, (2) evaluate the impact of such disclosures on investor decision-making, and (3) analyze the overall effect on corporate transparency. A survey design was chosen for its effectiveness in collecting comprehensive data from financial analysts, corporate managers, and investors. The sample size, calculated using Taro Yamane's formula, ensures representativeness with a 95% confidence level and a 5% margin of error. Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc was selected as the case study due to its extensive climate-related reporting practices. The reliability coefficient score of the survey was 0.92. Findings indicate that climate-related disclosures significantly enhance the transparency and accuracy of financial reports, leading to more informed investor decisions. It is recommended that companies in Lagos State integrate comprehensive climate-related disclosures into their financial reporting practices to improve transparency and investor confidence.
