Abstract
This research examines the incorporation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors into financial reporting in Rivers State, Nigeria. The objectives are to: (1) evaluate the extent to which companies disclose ESG factors, (2) assess the impact of ESG disclosures on financial performance, and (3) analyze investor perceptions of ESG reporting. A survey design was employed to gather data from corporate managers and investors. Using Taro Yamane's formula, a representative sample size was determined. Shell Nigeria was chosen as the case study due to its extensive ESG reporting practices. The reliability coefficient score of the survey was 0.91, indicating high reliability. Findings suggest that comprehensive ESG reporting positively impacts financial performance and enhances investor confidence. It is recommended that companies in Rivers State prioritize ESG disclosures to improve financial outcomes and investor relations.
