Background of the Study
Digital narratives, particularly online blogs, have become pivotal in shaping language use in Nigeria. This study explores the impact of these narratives on morphological structures by analyzing blog posts that combine traditional linguistic elements with innovative digital expressions. Bloggers often engage in creative word formation processes such as blending, compounding, and the creation of neologisms, which reflect a dynamic interplay between indigenous languages and global digital culture (Ibrahim, 2023). The informal yet influential nature of blog writing encourages authors to adapt morphological rules to enhance personal expression and cultural commentary. By examining a corpus of blog posts, the study aims to document morphological changes and assess how digital narratives contribute to language evolution. This research sheds light on the transformative role of digital media in reconfiguring conventional morphological patterns, thereby fostering a richer linguistic landscape in Nigeria (Olu, 2024; Adebola, 2025).

Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing influence of digital narratives, there is limited research on how online blogs affect morphological structures in Nigerian language. The innovative word formation techniques used in blog writing may diverge significantly from traditional norms, leading to shifts in language that are not yet fully understood (Ibrahim, 2023). This lack of systematic analysis creates a gap in our understanding of digital language evolution and poses challenges for educators and linguists in adapting to these changes (Olu, 2024). Without comprehensive documentation, the long-term impact of digital narratives on morphology remains unclear, hindering efforts to preserve linguistic heritage (Adebola, 2025).

Objectives of the Study

  • To analyze morphological changes in Nigerian online blogs.

  • To identify innovative word formation processes in digital narratives.

  • To assess the impact of these changes on traditional morphological patterns.

Research Questions

  • What morphological innovations are evident in online blogs?

  • How do these innovations differ from traditional morphological structures?

  • What implications do these changes have for language evolution?

Significance of the Study
This study illuminates the transformative impact of digital narratives on Nigerian morphology, offering insights into how online blogs foster linguistic innovation. Its findings will inform educators, linguists, and digital media experts, contributing to a deeper understanding of language evolution in the digital age (Ibrahim, 2023; Olu, 2024; Adebola, 2025).

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study is limited to the analysis of morphological adaptations in Nigerian online blogs and does not include other digital media formats.

Definitions of Terms

  • Digital Narratives: Storytelling through digital platforms.

  • Morphology: The study of word formation and structure.

  • Neologisms: Newly coined words or expressions.
