Background of the Study
Election manifestos are crucial documents that outline political agendas and campaign promises, and they play a significant role in shaping voter perceptions. This study offers a comparative analysis of semantic features in Nigerian political campaign manifestos, focusing on the lexical choices, persuasive rhetoric, and symbolic language employed by different political parties. By examining manifestos from various regions, the research seeks to uncover how semantic shifts reflect regional political ideologies and cultural values (Okoro, 2023). Political language in Nigeria often involves the strategic use of euphemisms, metaphors, and culturally resonant symbols to create a compelling narrative that appeals to diverse voter bases (Adebayo, 2024). The study utilizes corpus linguistics methods to analyze semantic patterns and investigates how these features contribute to message clarity, persuasion, and voter engagement. Additionally, it considers the influence of globalization and digital media on the evolution of political language. Through a detailed examination of language use in manifestos, this research aims to contribute to our understanding of political discourse in Nigeria and offer insights into effective communication strategies in electoral contexts (Chukwu, 2025).
Statement of the Problem
Despite the critical role of language in political campaigning, there is a lack of systematic research comparing semantic features across Nigerian election manifestos. This gap limits our understanding of how different parties use language to frame policies and influence public opinion (Okoro, 2023). The variation in lexical choices and rhetorical devices can lead to misinterpretation and voter confusion, undermining the democratic process. Additionally, with rapid changes in media landscapes, the traditional semantic strategies employed in manifestos may be evolving in unforeseen ways (Adebayo, 2024). This study seeks to address these gaps by conducting a comparative analysis of manifestos, thereby providing insights that can inform more effective political communication strategies and enhance voter understanding (Chukwu, 2025).

By elucidating how language shapes political narratives, the study informs more effective communication practices in democratic processes (Chukwu, 2025).
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
The study is limited to the analysis of election manifestos from selected Nigerian political parties. It does not extend to other forms of political communication or campaign materials.
