Background of the study
Language is a significant marker of identity and political affiliation within communities. In Efik community organizations, language not only conveys information but also signals group loyalty and ideological alignment. Efik language usage in organizational communications—such as meeting minutes, political pamphlets, and public addresses—serves to create a sense of unity and distinguish between rival factions (Udo, 2023). By employing traditional idioms and culturally loaded expressions, Efik language becomes a powerful tool for political branding and mobilization. However, inconsistencies in language use can lead to ambiguous political signals and hinder effective mobilization. This study evaluates how language functions as a marker of political affiliation within Efik organizations by analyzing organizational literature, public statements, and communication patterns. It aims to assess whether linguistic practices accurately reflect political identities and to identify best practices for leveraging language in political mobilization (Anyanwu, 2024).
Statement of the problem
In Efik community organizations, language is intended to mark political affiliation; however, inconsistent language practices have led to ambiguous political identities. Variations in usage and style can dilute the intended political signals, thereby reducing organizational cohesion and effectiveness (Udo, 2023).
