Background of the Study
Language modernization is an ongoing process influenced by technological advancements and digital communication. In Nigeria, the digital transformation has led to significant changes in syntactic structures, as modern communication channels promote brevity, clarity, and innovation. This study examines how language modernization affects Nigerian syntax, with a particular focus on digital transformation. It investigates shifts in sentence structure, clause usage, and punctuation in online communication, including emails, blogs, and social media posts (Olawale, 2023). The research will analyze a corpus of digital texts to determine how traditional syntactic forms are being adapted to meet the demands of rapid, interactive communication. The study also explores the role of language modernization in bridging generational gaps and promoting a more dynamic linguistic landscape. Findings from this research are expected to provide insights into the evolution of Nigerian syntax in the digital age and to inform educational and policy initiatives aimed at preserving linguistic heritage while embracing modern innovations (Nwankwo, 2024).
Statement of the Problem
Despite the pervasive influence of digital transformation, there is limited empirical research on how language modernization impacts Nigerian syntax. Existing studies often focus on vocabulary and stylistic changes, neglecting the systematic syntactic adaptations driven by modern communication technologies. This gap restricts our understanding of how traditional syntactic forms are modified in digital contexts and the implications for clarity and comprehension. Without a detailed analysis, educators and policymakers may struggle to balance the preservation of linguistic heritage with the demands of contemporary communication (Olawale, 2023; Nwankwo, 2024).
Objectives of the Study
To analyze syntactic changes in digital Nigerian communication.
To compare traditional and modern syntactic structures.
To evaluate the impact of modernization on language clarity.
Research Questions
What syntactic changes are observable in digital texts?
How do modern syntactic structures differ from traditional forms?
What are the implications of these changes for effective communication?
Significance of the Study
This study offers crucial insights into the effects of language modernization on Nigerian syntax. Its findings will guide educators, linguists, and policymakers in adapting teaching methods and language policies to reflect digital-era communication trends (Olawale, 2023).
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is limited to analyzing syntactic adaptations in digital communication and does not include spoken language.
