ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine the influence of broadcast media on the moral upbringing of Nigerian children with special reference to resident of Enugu metropolis, Enugu State. Specifically, the study aims to ascertain the level of influence broadcast media content have on the moral upbringing of Nigerian children, determine the extent broadcast media content shape the moral values of children residents in Enugu metropolis, ascertain whether well designed broadcast media programs have positive influence on the moral upbringing of Nigerian children and determine whether there is any relationship between broadcast media programmes and positive moral upbringing of Nigerian children. A total of 150 responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analyzed, the findings revealed that broadcast media content have enormous influence on the moral upbringing of Nigerian children. The study also revealed to a large extent, broadcast media content shape the moral values of children resident in Enugu metropolis. The study further revealed that well designed broadcast media programmes have positive influence on the moral upbringing of Nigerian children. Lastly, the study revealed there is significant relationship between broadcast media programmes and positive moral upbringing of Nigerian children. The study thereby recommended that formulation of public policy by government should focus on eliminating violence scenes in the broadcasting media, particularly television. Also, mass media station should be made to provide programmes that serve the educational and informational needs of children. Furthermore, parents should watch out for media programmes that may mislead children. Lastly, children should be encouraged to be involved in other activities apart from staying glued to television programmes.
