Workplace bullying in healthcare settings is a significant concern, impacting not only the well-being of nurses but also the quality of patient care. Bullying can manifest as verbal abuse, intimidation, or undermining behaviors, leading to increased stress, job dissatisfaction, and turnover among nursing staff.
In Nigeria, studies have indicated a high prevalence of workplace violence against health workers. For instance, research conducted in a Nigerian tertiary hospital reported that 88.1% of health workers had experienced workplace violence, with nurses being particularly vulnerable.
Despite these findings, there is limited research focusing specifically on nurses' perceptions of workplace bullying in tertiary hospitals within Kaduna State. Understanding these perceptions is crucial for developing effective interventions to mitigate bullying and promote a healthier work environment.
Workplace bullying among nurses can lead to adverse outcomes, including decreased job performance, low morale, and compromised patient care. In tertiary hospitals in Kaduna State, the extent and nature of workplace bullying, as perceived by nurses, remain underexplored. This gap in knowledge hinders the development of targeted strategies to address the issue and support nursing staff effectively.
This study focuses on nurses employed in tertiary hospitals within Kaduna State. It examines their perceptions of workplace bullying, its forms, and its impact on their professional and personal lives. Limitations may include potential response bias and the study's restriction to tertiary hospitals, which may limit the generalizability of the findings to other healthcare settings.
