Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is a critical component in modern healthcare, integrating clinical expertise with the best available research evidence and patient preferences to enhance patient outcomes. In nursing, EBP empowers practitioners to make informed decisions, leading to improved healthcare quality and patient safety.

Undergraduate nursing education plays a pivotal role in equipping future nurses with the knowledge and attitudes necessary for EBP. A positive attitude towards EBP among nursing students is essential, as it fosters a willingness to engage with current research and apply it in clinical settings. However, several studies have identified gaps in nursing students' knowledge and attitudes towards EBP. For instance, a study assessing nurses' knowledge, perception, and attitude towards EBP highlighted the need for enhanced educational strategies to improve EBP competencies among nursing students.

In Kano State, Nigeria, the integration of EBP into nursing education is crucial for developing competent healthcare professionals capable of delivering high-quality care. However, there is limited research focusing on the knowledge and attitudes of undergraduate nursing students in this region concerning EBP. Understanding these factors is vital for developing targeted educational interventions that promote EBP adoption among future nurses.
Despite the recognized importance of EBP in nursing, there is evidence suggesting that undergraduate nursing students may possess inadequate knowledge and hold unfavorable attitudes towards EBP. This deficiency can hinder the effective implementation of EBP in clinical practice, potentially compromising patient care quality. A study examining nurses' knowledge and attitudes regarding EBP found that misconceptions and lack of familiarity with EBP principles were prevalent among nursing professionals.
In Kano State, the extent to which undergraduate nursing students are prepared to engage in EBP remains unclear. Without a comprehensive understanding of their current knowledge levels and attitudes, educational institutions may struggle to design curricula that effectively promote EBP competencies. This study aims to fill this gap by evaluating the knowledge and attitudes of undergraduate nursing students in Kano State towards EBP, thereby informing educational strategies to enhance EBP integration in nursing practice.
This study focuses on undergraduate nursing students enrolled in accredited nursing programs within Kano State. It assesses their knowledge and attitudes towards EBP and explores factors influencing these attributes. The study's limitations include its cross-sectional design, which may not capture changes over time, and the reliance on self-reported data, which could be subject to response biases. Additionally, the findings may not be generalizable to nursing students outside Kano State or to practicing nurses.
