Background of the Study

Epilepsy is a neurological condition that significantly affects the quality of life of patients due to recurrent seizures, stigma, and associated social and psychological challenges. Nurses play an important role in the management of epilepsy, including patient education, seizure control, and emotional support. This study aims to explore the impact of nurses’ roles in improving the quality of life for epilepsy patients in Sokoto State hospitals.

Statement of the Problem

Although epilepsy is treatable, many patients in Sokoto State continue to face challenges related to seizure management, adherence to medication, and stigma. Nurses have a key role in managing these aspects, but there may be gaps in the care provided. Understanding the impact of nurses on improving patients' quality of life is crucial to improving care for individuals living with epilepsy in Sokoto State.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the role of nurses in improving the quality of life of patients with epilepsy in Sokoto State.

  2. To assess the impact of nurse-led interventions (e.g., education, emotional support, medication management) on epilepsy patients' quality of life.

  3. To identify challenges faced by nurses in improving the quality of life for patients with epilepsy.

Research Questions

  1. What role do nurses play in improving the quality of life for patients with epilepsy in Sokoto State hospitals?

  2. How do nurse-led interventions impact the quality of life for epilepsy patients?

  3. What challenges do nurses face in improving the quality of life for epilepsy patients?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Nurses’ involvement in epilepsy care significantly improves patients' quality of life.

  2. Nurse-led interventions, such as education and emotional support, positively impact epilepsy patients' well-being.

  3. Barriers, including lack of training and resources, limit the effectiveness of nurses in improving the quality of life for epilepsy patients.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on epilepsy patients receiving care in Sokoto State hospitals. Limitations may include challenges in measuring quality of life accurately and variability in nurses’ training across hospitals.

Definitions of Terms
