Background of the Study
Neonatal jaundice is a common condition among newborns, characterized by the yellowing of the skin and eyes due to high bilirubin levels. While often benign, if left untreated, it can lead to severe complications such as brain damage (kernicterus). Early identification and timely intervention are critical in managing neonatal jaundice. Nurse-led interventions, such as educating mothers, monitoring bilirubin levels, and facilitating early treatment (e.g., phototherapy), can significantly reduce the incidence and severity of this condition.
In Katsina State, where healthcare resources may be limited, nurses often play a pivotal role in identifying jaundice early, educating families, and ensuring proper care is provided. This study aims to assess the impact of nurse-led interventions on reducing neonatal jaundice cases in the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina State.
Statement of the Problem
Neonatal jaundice remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among newborns in Katsina State. Despite the availability of medical care, delayed diagnosis and inadequate intervention often result in complications. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of nurse-led interventions in reducing the incidence of neonatal jaundice in Katsina State.
