Background of the Study: Immunization remains one of the most effective public health interventions to prevent diseases in children. In Bauchi State, despite significant efforts to increase vaccination coverage, childhood immunization rates remain suboptimal due to a variety of factors such as lack of awareness, cultural barriers, and logistical challenges (Bello et al., 2024). Nurses, as frontline healthcare providers, are uniquely positioned to lead vaccination awareness programs and play a pivotal role in educating communities about the importance of immunization.
Nurse-led vaccination awareness programs have been shown to improve vaccination rates by addressing misconceptions, providing accurate information, and offering support to caregivers (Adamu & Ibrahim, 2023). These programs often focus on educating parents and caregivers about the benefits of immunization, the dangers of vaccine-preventable diseases, and the importance of timely vaccinations. By increasing awareness and encouraging active participation, nurses can help bridge the gap in immunization coverage. This study seeks to assess the impact of nurse-led vaccination awareness programs on childhood immunization rates in Bauchi State.
Statement of the Problem: Despite efforts by the government and healthcare providers, immunization rates among children in Bauchi State remain lower than recommended targets. One potential cause of this low coverage is inadequate public awareness regarding the importance of vaccination. Nurse-led vaccination awareness programs have the potential to improve these rates, but their impact on immunization outcomes in Bauchi State has not been fully evaluated. This study aims to explore how nurse-led programs affect vaccination rates among children in the state.
