Background of the Study: Disease outbreaks, such as cholera, Lassa fever, and the recent Ebola virus epidemic, have posed significant challenges to healthcare systems in Nigeria, particularly in regions like Kaduna State. Nurses are at the frontline of combating these outbreaks, providing direct care to infected individuals and contributing to public health measures, such as disease surveillance, health education, and vaccination campaigns (Ibrahim et al., 2023). However, despite their critical role, nurses often face multiple barriers that hinder the effectiveness of their interventions during such outbreaks.
Barriers to effective nursing interventions during disease outbreaks can include inadequate resources, limited training, poor communication, and community resistance. In Kaduna State, where outbreaks of infectious diseases are common, understanding these barriers is crucial for enhancing the nursing response and improving health outcomes. This study aims to assess the challenges nurses face in providing effective care during disease outbreaks in Kaduna State and to identify strategies to overcome these barriers.
Statement of the Problem: Nurses in Kaduna State face several challenges in providing effective care during disease outbreaks, which may contribute to the spread of infectious diseases and compromised patient outcomes. While studies have examined some of the barriers faced by healthcare workers during outbreaks, few have focused specifically on the challenges faced by nurses in Kaduna State. This study seeks to fill this gap by assessing the barriers that nurses face during disease outbreaks in the region and proposing potential solutions to enhance their effectiveness in managing such crises.
