Background of the Study
Training and development are critical aspects of human resource management that help employees enhance their skills, increase their productivity, and prepare for future challenges within their organization. In the banking sector, where the pace of technological advancements and customer expectations continue to evolve, employees must be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform effectively. United Bank for Africa (UBA) in Borno State, Nigeria, has implemented various training programs to improve employee competencies and overall organizational productivity (Idris & Kabiru, 2024). These initiatives range from on-the-job training to formalized learning opportunities, with the goal of enhancing employee performance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Borno State, characterized by socio-political challenges and economic instability, poses unique obstacles for organizations like UBA in maintaining employee productivity. Training and development programs are often seen as a strategic tool to address skill gaps and improve employee performance, especially in areas such as customer service, financial products, and digital banking services. However, the effectiveness of these programs in boosting employee productivity in UBA’s Borno State branch has yet to be thoroughly investigated.
This study seeks to examine the impact of training and development on employee productivity at United Bank for Africa in Borno State, assessing the various training programs implemented and their outcomes on employee performance.
