Background of the Study
Corporate training is a key tool for organizations to develop their human capital, ensuring that employees possess the necessary skills and knowledge to meet organizational goals and adapt to changing business environments (Yusuf & Olamide, 2023). In the banking sector, where technological advancements and customer service expectations evolve rapidly, continuous employee development through training programs is crucial for improving staff efficiency. Access Bank Plc, one of Nigeria's largest commercial banks, places a strong emphasis on training as part of its human resource development strategy.
In Sokoto State, Access Bank faces the challenge of ensuring that its staff is not only proficient in core banking skills but also equipped to handle emerging trends such as digital banking and customer relationship management. Corporate training in Access Bank aims to enhance employee performance by improving skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for delivering excellent service and ensuring operational efficiency. However, despite the availability of training programs, the extent to which these programs improve staff efficiency remains unclear. This study seeks to assess the role of corporate training in improving staff efficiency at Access Bank Plc in Sokoto State.
Statement of the Problem
While Access Bank invests in corporate training programs for its employees in Sokoto State, there are concerns regarding the effectiveness of these programs in improving staff efficiency. Some employees have expressed dissatisfaction with the training programs, citing issues such as irrelevant content, lack of practical application, and insufficient follow-up support. There is a need to critically assess the impact of these training programs on staff efficiency and identify areas for improvement in the training processes. This study will evaluate how corporate training at Access Bank influences staff efficiency in Sokoto State and explore the factors that contribute to or hinder the effectiveness of these training programs.
Objectives of the Study
1. To assess the effectiveness of corporate training programs in improving staff efficiency at Access Bank Plc, Sokoto State.
2. To identify the factors that enhance or hinder the success of corporate training programs at Access Bank Plc, Sokoto State.
3. To recommend improvements for corporate training programs to boost staff efficiency at Access Bank Plc, Sokoto State.
Research Questions
1. How effective are corporate training programs in improving staff efficiency at Access Bank Plc, Sokoto State?
2. What factors contribute to or hinder the success of corporate training programs at Access Bank Plc, Sokoto State?
3. What improvements can be made to corporate training programs to enhance staff efficiency at Access Bank Plc, Sokoto State?
Research Hypotheses
Ho1: Corporate training programs do not significantly improve staff efficiency at Access Bank Plc, Sokoto State.
Ho2: The factors identified as barriers to training success do not significantly affect staff efficiency at Access Bank Plc, Sokoto State.
Ho3: There is no significant difference in staff efficiency before and after participation in corporate training programs at Access Bank Plc, Sokoto State.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on the role of corporate training in improving staff efficiency at Access Bank Plc in Sokoto State. The research will examine training programs, their content, and their impact on employees’ performance. Limitations include challenges in measuring the direct impact of training on staff efficiency, as well as potential biases in employee feedback regarding training effectiveness.
