Background of the Study
Data security has become a critical concern for organizations worldwide, given the increasing prevalence of cyberattacks and data breaches. Employees play a vital role in safeguarding organizational data, as their awareness and adherence to security protocols significantly influence the effectiveness of cybersecurity measures (James & Okonkwo, 2024).
In Katsina State, corporate organizations face challenges in ensuring data security due to limited employee awareness, inadequate training, and evolving cyber threats. While many organizations invest in advanced security technologies, human error remains a significant vulnerability (Aliyu & Abdullahi, 2023).
This study explores the level of data security awareness among employees in Katsina State, focusing on their knowledge, practices, and the impact of awareness programs on organizational security.
Statement of the Problem
Corporate organizations in Katsina State are increasingly targeted by cybercriminals, leading to data breaches and financial losses. Despite the availability of advanced security technologies, employee-related vulnerabilities such as phishing attacks, weak passwords, and negligence continue to pose significant risks (Usman & Bello, 2024).
The lack of sufficient research on data security awareness among employees hinders the development of effective training and awareness programs. This study addresses this gap by assessing the current level of awareness and its implications for organizational security.
Objectives of the Study
1. To assess the level of data security awareness among employees in corporate organizations in Katsina State.
2. To evaluate the impact of awareness programs on data security practices.
3. To identify common vulnerabilities caused by lack of awareness.
Research Questions
1. What is the level of data security awareness among employees in corporate organizations in Katsina State?
