Background of the Study

Motivation is a critical factor influencing the performance and efficiency of health workers in hospitals. Motivated healthcare workers are more likely to provide high-quality patient care, demonstrate higher levels of job satisfaction, and contribute positively to organizational goals (Adeola & Garba, 2023). Motivation in healthcare settings is influenced by both intrinsic factors, such as personal values and professional development, and extrinsic factors, including financial incentives, recognition, and work environment.

In Sokoto State, hospitals are faced with numerous challenges, including high patient loads, limited resources, and infrastructural deficits. Despite these challenges, the motivation of health workers remains an area of concern, with potential implications for service delivery. Understanding the relationship between health workers’ motivation and their performance can provide insight into strategies for improving healthcare quality (Ahmed & Bello, 2024).

Statement of the Problem

Hospitals in Sokoto State struggle with healthcare delivery efficiency, attributed in part to low motivation levels among healthcare workers. Factors such as inadequate compensation, lack of professional development opportunities, and poor work conditions contribute to worker dissatisfaction and reduced productivity. Despite efforts to motivate health workers through various programs, the effectiveness of these strategies in improving service delivery remains unclear (Garba et al., 2023).

This study examines the impact of health workers' motivation on service delivery in hospitals in Sokoto State.

Objectives of the Study

1. To assess the level of motivation among health workers in hospitals in Sokoto State.

2. To evaluate the relationship between health workers' motivation and service delivery.

3. To recommend strategies for improving health workers' motivation to enhance service delivery.

Research Questions

1. What is the level of motivation among health workers in hospitals in Sokoto State?

2. How does health workers' motivation affect service delivery in hospitals?

3. What strategies can improve health workers' motivation to enhance service delivery?

Research Hypotheses

1. There is no significant relationship between health workers' motivation and service delivery in hospitals.

2. Health workers’ motivation significantly affects the quality of service delivery in hospitals.

3. Improved motivation strategies significantly enhance service delivery in hospitals.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study focuses on hospitals in Sokoto State, analyzing the impact of health workers' motivation on service delivery. Limitations include variability in motivation factors across different hospital departments and potential biases in self-reported data from health workers.
