Background of the Study
Digital forensics has become an integral component of cybersecurity management, enabling organizations to investigate, prevent, and respond to cyber threats. It involves the collection, analysis, and preservation of digital evidence to identify and address security breaches (Olawale & Musa, 2023). In the telecom sector, where large volumes of sensitive data are transmitted and stored, digital forensics plays a critical role in safeguarding information and maintaining regulatory compliance.
In Nasarawa State, telecom firms face persistent cybersecurity threats, including data breaches, malware attacks, and insider threats. Leveraging digital forensics enables these firms to enhance their incident response capabilities and mitigate risks effectively (Ibrahim & Garba, 2024). This study examines the impact of digital forensics on cybersecurity management in the telecom sector.
Statement of the Problem
Telecom firms in Nasarawa State are increasingly targeted by cybercriminals, posing significant risks to data security and customer trust. While digital forensics offers a robust framework for managing cybersecurity incidents, its adoption and effectiveness in the region remain understudied (Ahmed et al., 2023). Challenges such as insufficient expertise, high costs, and inadequate tools hinder the effective use of digital forensics in cybersecurity management.
This study explores the role of digital forensics in enhancing cybersecurity management and addresses the challenges faced by telecom firms in Nasarawa State.
Objectives of the Study
1. To assess the role of digital forensics in managing cybersecurity threats among telecom firms in Nasarawa State.
2. To identify the challenges telecom firms face in implementing digital forensics.
3. To evaluate the effectiveness of digital forensics in improving cybersecurity incident response.
Research Questions
1. What role does digital forensics play in managing cybersecurity threats among telecom firms in Nasarawa State?
2. What challenges do telecom firms face in implementing digital forensics?
3. How effective is digital forensics in improving cybersecurity incident response?
Research Hypotheses
1. Digital forensics does not significantly enhance cybersecurity management in telecom firms in Nasarawa State.
2. Challenges related to cost and expertise significantly hinder the implementation of digital forensics.
3. Digital forensics significantly improves incident response in telecom firms.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on telecom firms in Nasarawa State, investigating the role of digital forensics in cybersecurity management. Limitations may include restricted access to sensitive data and variations in the adoption of digital forensics tools.
