Background of the Study
Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative technology in the field of business process automation. AI-powered tools and systems enable organizations to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making by automating routine tasks and analyzing large volumes of data (Okoro & Bala, 2023). In the manufacturing sector, AI applications range from predictive maintenance and quality control to supply chain optimization and inventory management (Adamu & Samuel, 2024).
In Plateau State, manufacturing firms are increasingly adopting AI to streamline operations and remain competitive in a dynamic business environment. The integration of AI in business processes reduces dependency on manual labor, minimizes errors, and accelerates production timelines. However, the implementation of AI also presents challenges such as high setup costs, the need for skilled personnel, and concerns about job displacement (Yusuf et al., 2025).
Given the limited adoption of AI in some regions, it is essential to evaluate its role and effectiveness in automating business processes. This study focuses on understanding the impact of AI on manufacturing firms in Plateau State, highlighting the benefits, challenges, and opportunities associated with its adoption.
Statement of the Problem
Manufacturing firms in Plateau State face increasing competition and rising operational costs. Traditional approaches to business process automation are often inadequate for addressing the complexities of modern manufacturing (Bello & Yakubu, 2023). While AI offers the potential to revolutionize these processes, its adoption is hindered by financial, technical, and organizational challenges.
There is a need for empirical research to examine how AI influences business process automation in the manufacturing sector, particularly in regions like Plateau State where technological adoption varies significantly. This study aims to bridge this knowledge gap by assessing the role of AI in enhancing efficiency and productivity.
Objectives of the Study
1. To analyze the role of artificial intelligence in automating business processes in manufacturing firms in Plateau State.
2. To evaluate the benefits and challenges of adopting AI for business process automation.
3. To identify the factors influencing the adoption of AI in the manufacturing sector in Plateau State.

Research Hypotheses
1. AI does not significantly enhance business process automation in manufacturing firms in Plateau State.

3. Factors influencing AI adoption significantly affect its implementation in business processes.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on manufacturing firms in Plateau State, examining their use of AI for business process automation. Limitations may include the variability in AI adoption levels and challenges in accessing proprietary data.
