Background of the Study: Total Quality Management (TQM) is a management approach that aims to improve the quality of products and services through continuous improvement and the active involvement of all members of the organization (Talib & Rahman, 2023). In industries such as auto manufacturing, where product quality is paramount, TQM strategies are integral to ensuring operational excellence, reducing defects, and enhancing customer satisfaction. Auto manufacturers in Niger State, Nigeria, face increasing pressure to adopt international quality standards due to globalization and competition from both local and foreign manufacturers (Olorunfemi & Adesina, 2023).
TQM strategies typically involve practices such as process optimization, employee training, customer feedback integration, and cross-functional collaboration (Adeniyi & Iqbal, 2024). In Niger State, where industrialization is growing but still faces infrastructural and resource challenges, the adoption and effectiveness of TQM strategies may vary significantly across firms. The effectiveness of these strategies in enhancing product quality, operational efficiency, and customer loyalty is crucial for the long-term success and sustainability of auto manufacturers in the region (Okeke & Bello, 2023).
This study will empirically examine the effectiveness of TQM strategies in improving the performance of auto manufacturers in Niger State, focusing on the impact on product quality, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Statement of the Problem: Auto manufacturers in Niger State face significant challenges in meeting quality standards and maintaining competitive advantage due to resource constraints, infrastructure limitations, and fluctuating market conditions. Although many manufacturers have implemented TQM strategies, the effectiveness of these strategies in achieving quality improvement and operational efficiency remains uncertain. This study aims to empirically assess the impact of TQM strategies on the performance of auto manufacturers in Niger State.
Objectives of the Study:
1. To evaluate the effectiveness of TQM strategies in improving product quality in auto manufacturers in Niger State.
2. To assess the impact of TQM strategies on operational efficiency and cost reduction in the auto manufacturing industry.
3. To analyze the relationship between TQM practices and customer satisfaction in the auto manufacturing sector in Niger State.
Research Questions:
1. How effective are TQM strategies in improving product quality in auto manufacturers in Niger State?
2. What impact do TQM strategies have on operational efficiency and cost reduction in the auto manufacturing industry in Niger State?
3. What is the relationship between TQM practices and customer satisfaction in the auto manufacturing sector in Niger State?
Research Hypotheses:
1. TQM strategies do not significantly improve product quality in auto manufacturers in Niger State.
2. There is no significant relationship between TQM practices and operational efficiency in the auto manufacturing sector in Niger State.
3. TQM practices do not significantly impact customer satisfaction in the auto manufacturing industry in Niger State.
Scope and Limitations of the Study: This study will focus on auto manufacturing firms in Niger State, Nigeria. It will evaluate the effectiveness of TQM strategies in improving product quality, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Limitations include the potential challenges in obtaining data on TQM implementation and the difficulty in measuring long-term impacts of TQM on business outcomes.
