Background of the Study
IT automation refers to the use of software to create repeatable instructions and processes to replace manual labor in various IT tasks, such as data entry, system monitoring, and network management (Rathi, 2023). In the logistics industry, IT automation helps improve efficiency, reduce human error, streamline operations, and lower operational costs. Automation solutions such as warehouse management systems, automated billing systems, and route optimization algorithms are increasingly being adopted to enhance business operations in logistics firms.
Logistics firms in Sokoto State are beginning to implement IT automation to streamline their supply chain management, optimize inventory tracking, and improve customer service. However, while IT automation promises significant cost reductions, its implementation requires considerable investment in technology, training, and change management (Tukur & Sulaimon, 2024). This study will examine the effects of IT automation on cost reduction within logistics firms in Sokoto State, focusing on the challenges and benefits associated with its adoption.
Statement of the Problem
Logistics firms in Sokoto State face operational inefficiencies and high costs due to manual processes, outdated technology, and poor resource allocation. IT automation offers a potential solution to reduce operational costs and improve service delivery. However, many logistics firms have yet to fully explore the potential of automation due to high initial costs, resistance to change, and technical challenges. This study aims to evaluate the effect of IT automation on cost reduction in Sokoto State's logistics industry.
