Background of the Study
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has revolutionized business operations globally, especially for small businesses. For cyber café owners in Kogi State, the adoption of ICT tools such as the internet, computers, and digital payment systems has the potential to enhance business performance by increasing efficiency, improving customer service, and opening new avenues for marketing and sales (Adebowale & Olarinmoye, 2023). In a region like Kogi State, where digital infrastructure may be underdeveloped, the role of ICT in small business success is even more significant. Small business owners in the service industry, such as cyber cafés, can leverage ICT to streamline operations, enhance service delivery, and stay competitive in an increasingly digital economy.

However, the extent to which ICT has been effectively integrated into small business operations remains unclear. Despite the benefits, some cyber café owners face challenges such as high costs of digital equipment, inadequate technical knowledge, and unreliable internet connectivity. This study aims to assess the role of ICT in enhancing the performance of small businesses, specifically focusing on cyber café owners in Kogi State.

Statement of the Problem
The integration of ICT into small business operations is essential for staying competitive and improving performance. However, many small business owners in Kogi State, particularly cyber café operators, face challenges in effectively utilizing ICT. 2. What challenges do cyber café owners in Kogi State face in adopting ICT for business operations?
  3. What strategies can be implemented to improve the use of ICT in cyber cafés in Kogi State?

Research Hypotheses

  1. H0: ICT adoption does not significantly improve the performance of cyber cafés in Kogi State.
  2. H0: Cyber café owners in Kogi State do not face significant challenges in adopting ICT for their businesses.
  3. H0: The lack of technical training does not significantly hinder the use of ICT among cyber café owners in Kogi State.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on cyber café owners in Kogi State and assess the impact of ICT on their business performance. Limitations include the potential bias in self-reported data and challenges in generalizing the findings to other types of small businesses.
