Background of the Study
Logistics costs, encompassing transportation, warehousing, and inventory management, play a significant role in determining product pricing strategies. In Nigeria, the volatility of these costs—due to factors such as fuel price fluctuations, inadequate infrastructure, and inflation—poses a challenge for companies like Nestlé Nigeria (Adewale & Uche, 2023). Nestlé’s operations in Benue State require efficient logistics to ensure product availability and competitiveness in the market.

Logistics cost fluctuations directly affect pricing decisions, influencing customer affordability and organizational profitability. Understanding the relationship between these costs and pricing strategies is crucial for businesses to maintain market stability and profitability (Okafor et al., 2024).

Statement of the Problem
Rising and unpredictable logistics costs challenge companies’ ability to maintain stable pricing strategies, particularly in regions with underdeveloped infrastructure like Benue State. Nestlé Nigeria, which operates in the highly competitive FMCG sector, must balance cost management with affordability for consumers. However, limited research explores how logistics cost fluctuations specifically influence pricing strategies in this context (Eze & Musa, 2023).

Objectives of the Study

  1. To analyze the causes of logistics cost fluctuations in Nestlé Nigeria’s operations in Benue State.
  2. To evaluate the impact of logistics cost fluctuations on product pricing strategies.
  3. To propose strategies for mitigating the effects of logistics cost fluctuations on pricing.

Research Questions

  1. What are the causes of logistics cost fluctuations in Nestlé Nigeria’s operations?
  2. How do logistics cost fluctuations influence product pricing strategies?
  3. What strategies can mitigate the impact of logistics cost fluctuations on pricing?

Research Hypotheses

  1. H0: Logistics cost fluctuations do not significantly affect product pricing strategies.
  2. H0: The causes of logistics cost fluctuations are not significantly related to pricing challenges.
  3. H0: Mitigation strategies do not significantly reduce the impact of logistics cost fluctuations on pricing.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on Nestlé Nigeria’s operations in Benue State, analyzing logistics cost fluctuations and their effect on product pricing strategies. Limitations include the availability of detailed financial data and external economic factors like inflation.

Definitions of Terms

  1. Logistics Costs: Expenses incurred in the movement and storage of goods.
  2. Pricing Strategies: Methods used by companies to price their products.
  3. Cost Fluctuations: Variations in expenses due to external or internal factors.
