Background of the Study
The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global supply chains, forcing organizations to re-evaluate their strategies to maintain operational resilience. Retail businesses like Shoprite in Adamawa State were particularly affected by lockdowns, border closures, and changes in consumer behavior (Adedeji & Mensah, 2023).

The pandemic exposed vulnerabilities in traditional supply chain models, highlighting the need for agile and responsive strategies. Shoprite's response to these disruptions offers insights into the broader implications of the pandemic on global supply chain management. This study examines these changes and their effectiveness in mitigating risks (Okafor & Yusuf, 2024).

Statement of the Problem
The COVID-19 pandemic created unprecedented challenges for supply chains, disrupting operations and exposing inefficiencies. Shoprite in Adamawa State faced significant hurdles in maintaining inventory levels, ensuring timely deliveries, and adapting to fluctuating demand. This study addresses the lack of empirical data on the impact of the pandemic on supply chain strategies in this context (Bello & Ibrahim, 2023).

Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Shoprite’s supply chain strategies.
  2. To identify challenges faced by Shoprite in adapting to pandemic-induced disruptions.
  3. To recommend strategies for improving supply chain resilience in the face of future disruptions.

Research Questions

  1. How did the COVID-19 pandemic influence Shoprite’s supply chain strategies?
  2. What challenges did Shoprite face in adapting to pandemic disruptions?
  3. What strategies can enhance supply chain resilience for Shoprite?

Research Hypotheses

  1. H0: The COVID-19 pandemic did not significantly influence Shoprite’s supply chain strategies.
  2. H0: Challenges faced by Shoprite did not significantly impact its ability to adapt to disruptions.
  3. H0: Proposed strategies do not significantly improve supply chain resilience for Shoprite.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on Shoprite’s supply chain operations in Adamawa State, exploring the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on its strategies. Limitations include the availability of pre-pandemic baseline data and the evolving nature of global supply chain trends.

Definitions of Terms

  1. Supply Chain Strategies: Long-term plans for managing supply chain processes.
  2. Pandemic-Induced Disruptions: Operational challenges caused by widespread disease outbreaks.
  3. Resilience: The ability to recover quickly from disruptions.
