Background of the Study

Information Technology (IT) outsourcing involves contracting external providers to handle IT-related services, such as data management, network maintenance, and software development. For insurance firms in Kebbi State, IT outsourcing is considered a strategic approach to reduce operational costs, access specialized expertise, and improve service delivery. This study explores the effect of IT outsourcing on cost reduction and the quality of service provided by insurance companies in the state (Aliyu & Ibrahim, 2023).

Statement of the Problem

Despite the potential advantages of IT outsourcing, many insurance firms in Kebbi State face challenges in effectively implementing outsourcing strategies. These challenges may include difficulties in vendor management, concerns about data security, and a lack of control over outsourced services. This study aims to assess whether IT outsourcing truly results in cost reduction and improved service delivery in the insurance industry (Kassim & Yusuf, 2023).

Objectives of the Study

  1. To examine the impact of IT outsourcing on cost reduction in insurance firms in Kebbi State.
  2. To evaluate how IT outsourcing affects the quality and timeliness of service delivery in insurance firms.
  3. To explore the challenges faced by insurance firms in implementing IT outsourcing strategies effectively.

Research Questions

  1. How does IT outsourcing contribute to cost reduction in insurance firms in Kebbi State?
  2. In what ways does IT outsourcing improve service delivery in insurance firms?
  3. What challenges do insurance firms face when outsourcing IT services, and how can these challenges be addressed?

Research Hypotheses

  1. IT outsourcing significantly reduces operational costs in insurance firms in Kebbi State.
  2. The adoption of IT outsourcing enhances the quality and timeliness of service delivery in insurance firms.
  3. Insurance firms in Kebbi State face significant challenges in implementing IT outsourcing strategies.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on insurance firms in Kebbi State that have adopted IT outsourcing. Limitations may include difficulties in obtaining proprietary data from insurance firms, as well as biases related to self-reporting of outsourcing outcomes.
