Background of the Study

Technology has revolutionized supply chain management, enabling businesses to streamline operations, enhance productivity, and improve customer satisfaction. In Nigeria's textile industry, supply chain inefficiencies have historically hindered growth and competitiveness, with challenges including poor inventory management, delayed production cycles, and limited market access (Adebayo & Okeke, 2023).

Emerging technologies such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, warehouse automation, and data analytics offer solutions to these inefficiencies. By integrating these technologies, Nigerian textile firms can optimize their supply chain processes, reduce costs, and compete more effectively in domestic and international markets (Eze & Chukwuma, 2024).

This study examines the role of technology in enhancing supply chain efficiency in Nigerian textile firms, highlighting successes, challenges, and potential areas for improvement.

Statement of the Problem

The Nigerian textile industry faces significant supply chain inefficiencies, including delays, waste, and high costs. These issues are exacerbated by limited adoption of advanced technologies, which are critical for improving supply chain processes. As global competitors embrace technological innovations, Nigerian textile firms risk losing market share unless they adapt (Oluwakemi, 2023).

This study seeks to address the gap in knowledge regarding how technology can enhance supply chain efficiency in Nigerian textile firms, providing actionable insights for industry stakeholders.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the current state of technology adoption in the supply chains of Nigerian textile firms.
  2. To analyze the impact of technology on supply chain efficiency in the Nigerian textile industry.
  3. To recommend strategies for leveraging technology to optimize supply chain performance.

Research Questions

  1. What is the current state of technology adoption in Nigerian textile supply chains?
  2. How does technology impact supply chain efficiency in the Nigerian textile industry?
  3. What strategies can optimize technology use to improve supply chain performance?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Technology adoption in Nigerian textile firms is limited compared to global standards.
  2. Technology significantly enhances supply chain efficiency in the Nigerian textile industry.
  3. Improved technology integration leads to better supply chain performance in Nigerian textile firms.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study focuses on Nigerian textile firms and their supply chain operations between 2023 and 2025. Limitations include access to proprietary data and the variability of technological adoption across firms.

Definitions of Terms

  • Supply Chain Efficiency: The effective management of supply chain operations to minimize costs and enhance productivity.
  • Technology Adoption: The implementation of technological tools and systems in business operations.
  • Textile Firms: Companies involved in the production, distribution, and sale of textile products.
