Background of the Study
Trade unions play a crucial role in advocating for employees' rights and welfare in various sectors, including the manufacturing industry. They serve as intermediaries between employers and employees, negotiating for better working conditions, fair wages, benefits, and job security. Lafarge Cement, one of the largest cement manufacturers in Nigeria, operates across various states, including Adamawa, where it employs a significant number of workers. The presence of trade unions within Lafarge Cement provides employees with a platform to voice their concerns and ensure that their welfare is prioritized by the organization.
In Adamawa State, where Lafarge Cement’s operations are central to the economy, employees rely on trade unions to address issues related to job security, working hours, health and safety standards, and welfare programs.
