ABSTRACT: The role of vocational education in supporting smart grid technology development is critical for the advancement of modern energy systems. The objectives of this study were to: (1) examine the integration of smart grid concepts in vocational education programs, (2) evaluate the preparedness of students for careers in smart grid technology, and (3) identify areas for curriculum enhancement. A survey research design was utilized to gather data from educators, students, and industry experts. The sample size comprised 140 respondents selected through purposive sampling from Edo State. The case study focused on a technical institute specializing in electrical engineering and smart grid technologies. Findings revealed that while basic smart grid concepts were included in the curricula, there was a need for more comprehensive training on advanced technologies and real-world applications. Recommendations included updating curricula to include more hands-on training, fostering partnerships with smart grid technology companies, and continuous professional development for educators.
